Diversity is Key, but Inclusion Is What Gets the Engine Going



I have been blessed to be surrounded by people from every walk of life: socio-economic status, race, and ethnicity. I'm always intrigued by the diversity of organizations. I know there are a lot of things that factor into the results of what an organization looks like. For example, location, type of product it sales, the mission or cause the organization stands for, as well as the decision makers in the organization.  All of these things play a huge role towards the end results. 


In my opinion we grow better as human beings by reaching out, learning, and getting to know more about someone who doesn't look like, or even think like we do as individuals. 


Some of my best experiences have been around people who have travelled the world. It's always cool to hear the stories of people who have travelled abroad. 


Can you imagine being surrounded by people who think exactly as you do? I would say that would make a pretty boring world to live in.


What happens if you start a new business and the end goal is for your business to have a global reach? How would you connect with other countries? How do you cultivate a genuine trust with people of different cultures?


If you struggle in the area of diversity and inclusion, I would suggest hiring a coach that can help you break down the walls. Take the limits off!


I really like the definition I found on the Ferris University website for Diversity and Inclusion:


"Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs.


Inclusion is involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized. An inclusive university promotes and sustains a sense of belonging; it values and practices respect for the talents, beliefs, backgrounds, and ways of living of its members."

Ask yourself the following questions:

Am I accepting of people from different cultures?

Are my relationships diverse?

If not, am I willing to come out of my comfort zone to reach others who are different than me?
